Dentists to participate in ‘Give Kids A Smile!’

Here is a great event going on in the Winston Salem, NC community around Dental Health.  “Give Kids a Smile!” that launches in February is a great way to draw attention to how important dental health is to children and others.  It brings awareness of oral health to the community and shows what is possible in preventative care.

Davidson County dentists will join their counterparts next week to provide free oral health care services to thousands of children across the country.

The annual “Give Kids a Smile!” Feb. 3 will kick off National Children’s Dental Health Month . The national project is designed as an awareness and education day, with free oral health care to as many children as possible. It is not intended as a one-day solution to the dental access crisis.

Davidson County Dental Society, N.C. Oral Section, Davidson County Health Department, Thomasville City Schools, Lexington City Schools and Davidson County Schools will participate by providing free dental exams and free dental sealants for some third-grade students in Davidson County. Dental sealants are plastic coatings placed on permanent molars to prevent decay. The procedure is painless.

Also, some volunteer dentists will provide extensive dental care for children in the county .

Other Children’s Dental Health Month activities in Davidson County will include “Meet the Dentist,” a free program for preschool children and their parents at the Lexington Library beginning at 9:30 a.m. Feb. 10.
